DVD, or Digital Versatile disc can store data, videos and good quality sound. They have the same appearance as CDs but they are encoded differently and can hold more information.
*When was the technology invented?
DVDs were presented to the world in the december of 1995 but it was worked on in the 1990s. Toshiba first worked on it but later Phillips and Sony agreed to help. They made one modification, EFMPlus, which was designed by Kees Immink. EFMPlus was chosen because it had great resistance to scratches and fingerprints. But the capacity of the disk had to be reduced to 4.7GB instead of the original 5GB. Later on in May 1997, the DVD Forum replace the DVD Consortium
*Where would you find this technology?
Now Digital Vesatile Discs are found all around the world. It is sold in video stores, blank DVDs and ones that are used for movies and videos.
*Do you personally own a device with this technology?
Yes, I own DVDs and DVD players. I use DVDs to watch movies with good quality sound and pictures.
*What are the main uses for this technology?
DVDs are most popular for watching movies. Now it is sold in many stores.
*Are there other uses that you can think of?
Other then watching movies, I think it is also used for listening to music, DVDs can fit alot of data so the higher the capacity the more music.
*Do you feel this technology will be used in 10 years from now or be replaced by something better?
I think it might still be used in 10 years but not as popular as today, maybe it would be in the place the CDs are now, not very popular but cheaper. I think in the future the Blu-ray will be used more then the DVD, because it has a higher capacity. Maybe the CD will rarely be used and the DVD would just be another way of buying cheaper movies. I don’t think DVDs would be the same price becuase people would find the Blu-ray more useful than the DVD. Their price would lower.
